42nd High School House: Construction Update & Student Spotlight

The 42nd High School House is well underway, and the students are working hard to learn the trade and complete the next affordable home in Great Falls. Located at 1724 4th Ave South, they project the home will be completed on time in early May.

"This has been another great year thus far at the High School House. Student numbers and participation is up. Students are excited about the house they are building this year- it being a brand-new plan. Students are looking forward to working inside on drywall, painting and finish carpentry after a tough Montana fall,” stated Pete Pace, GFH Industrial Tech Instructor. Not only are the number of students involved in the program increasing, but the quality of students who are working on the house is also nothing short of incredible.

Kaleb Stringer, CMR senior, recently received Mattress Firm’s Student of the Week due to his many involvements that include the High School House program. Kaleb said a few words at NeighborWorks January board meeting last week, stating “It doesn’t take a lot of effort to make a difference. It’s holding the door for people and saying hello. It’s the small things that can really change someone’s whole mood.”

As Kaleb sets his eyes on graduation, he looks forward to a potential career in construction, and the High School House program is setting him and so many others up for success. Not only are these students learning valuable carpentry and trade skills, but they are also learning life skills that include discipline, leadership, and responsibility. So, mark your calendars for May 19th for the 42nd High School House Open House, and be sure to meet the next generation of hard-working adults while admiring the time and effort they put in to better themselves and our community.
